Zicai Zhu obtained his PhD degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2013. Then he moved to Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics (SINANO), Chinese Academy of Science, worked at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan and was recommended to IMS lab at Tartu University in the following years. During his PhD and post-doc, he always worked on IPMC actuator and ionic polymer sensors. Now, he is an associate professor in Xi’an Jiaotong University. His research interests mainly includes ionic EAP actuators and PVC gel based artificial muscles and ionic polymer based bionic mechanical perceptrons, 4D printing etc. His group focuses on developing underwater bio-robots, wearable electronics and robots based on polymer actuators and sensors.
